Everton target Mohamed Camara
Everton have reportedly named Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara as an alternative to Idrissa Gueye.
According to Daily Mail, Premier League side Everton are interested in making a move for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara in the current transfer window.
The 22-year-old joined the Austrian giants in 2020 and has since established himself as a reliable player in the middle of the park. A defensive midfielder by trade, the performances of the Malian international are promising and attract the attention of Everton.
Frank Lampard’s side barely escaped relegation last season and also lost star striker Richarlison to boot. The Everton boss has a huge job to do to turn around the fortunes of the Merseyside club and will need to be actively supported in the current transfer window.
One area where Everton need strengthening is in the central midfield locations. The lack of a defensive-minded player to protect the backline has proven to be a huge weakness, and addressing that is a priority.

The Toffees were keen to bring back former fan favorite Idrissa Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain and were looking to finalize a deal this week. Unfortunately for Everton, the talks appear to have stalled leading them to look for other alternatives, including Mohamed Camara.
At just 22, Camara is making waves with his performance for Red Bull Salzburg. He has been particularly impressive in the UEFA Champions League and has drawn comparisons to French midfielder N’Golo Kante. Leeds United and Newcastle United are also interested in the Mali international, but Red Bull Salzburg have so far held him firmly.
With the Austrian giants holding their own, it now falls to Everton to make an offer that tips the scales in their favour. A major draw in their favor is Camara’s willingness to partner Lampard at Goodison Park. Beating other interested parties against the 22-year-old would be something of a coup for the Toffees.
Having already brought in Amadou Onana from LOSC Lille, Everton seem to be giving themselves enough options to deploy a double pivot. Adding Camara to the ranks will bolster a roster that also includes other defensive midfield options viz. This gives Lampard enough candidates to choose from if he chooses to overload the midfield.
With the summer transfer window due to close on September 1, time is running out for Everton to move. If they land the 22-year-old midfielder, the Toffees will enter the season with a much improved roster that will provide them with more steel in defence.
