Hudson Valley Historic Landmarks will reopen from May 6

The region’s four main historic tourist attractions will reopen to the public this month. The announcement was made by Historic Hudson Valley, the nonprofit entity that operates the sites.

three of four, Philipsburg Manor, Washington Irving’s Sunnyside and Union Churchwill open on Friday, May 6. Kykuit, the Rockefeller estate in Pocantico Hills, will do so on Saturday, May 21. These four National Historic Landmarks will remain open until November.

Following a recent multi-million dollar restoration, Philipsburg Manor, now features a new pedestrian bridge over the pond where visitors can experience the flour mill, stroll through the mansion filled with artifacts from era and learn about the 23 slaves of African descent who lived and worked on the plantation. Philipsburg Manor and Kykuit have been closed to public tours since 2020.

Tours will also resume at Sunnyside, home of Washington Irving, author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Picnic tables are available at both sites and light snacks, as well as souvenirs and local finds, are available for purchase from museum shops.

Visitors to the Union Church of Pocantico Hills can admire spectacular stained glass, including the last work commissioned by Henri Matisse, as well as nine windows by Marc Chagall.

From May 21, visitors to Kykuit, the hilltop estate built by Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller, will be able to admire classical architecture in the sprawling gardens and modern art collected largely by the former governor. of New York and US Vice President Nelson Rockefeller.

Capacity is limited for all tours and visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online in advance at hudsonvalley.org. Same-day admission prices are subject to an additional $2. All visitors must agree to Historic Hudson Valley’s COVID-19 courtesy code, which includes wearing a mask while inside any of our properties or on the shuttle to Kykuit.
